Inspired by the Memorial Day Weekend 90's videos on MTV Jams, here is part one of some of my 90's crushes from hip-hop and r and b, let me know who some of yours are via Twitter @StormSez. Enjoy the trip down memory lane...
Q-tip from A Tribe Called Quest - Who didn't love his flows on classics like "Can I Kick It," "Bonita Applebum, " or "Electric Relaxation." - Remember saying hi to him once at a music conference in Miami back in 1995. Made my day :)
Cam'ron - The "Horse and Carriage" video sealed the deal for my crush! Later loved his work with Dip Set and his album "Come Home With Me," "Oh Boy," is a definite summertime song still all these years later. Covered Cam and the Dip Set a few times including their reunion show at Hammerstein Ballroom back in 2010 and Summer Jam in 2011.
Treach of Naughty by Nature - Def some of hip-hop anthems like "O.P.P," "Hip Hop Hooray, " and my fave song "Uptown Anthem." Remember attending a ruff cut screening of Set it Off with director F.Gary Gray, Treach ended up sitting right near me at the theater which was below the old Virgin Mega store in Times Square.
Montell Jordan - Remember when "This Is How We Do It," came out and remember travelling to NYC to get remixes on vinyl to play on my radio show. Loved the song but when I saw the video and saw he looked like bball player def wasn't disappointed!
Ma$e - He was flashy, cute and his smile definitely was infectious with hits like "Feel So Good, " "What You Want, " and his verse on "Only You," made you want to be the girl on his arm!
Silkk the Shocker - This tall southern No Limit soldier caught my eye in "Make'em Say Ughh, " "It Ain't My Fault," and continued to show a more romantic side with his collabos with singer Mya in "Movin' On" & " Somebody Like Me."
