Soul-Searching Saturday: Are You Living Your Life for Yourself?

For my 25th post of the #30IN30 challenge, I am pondering a question I heard in Tyler Perry's Good Deeds, "Are you living your life for yourself?" This got me to think about my life choices and how my life has turned out thus far. Last year I asked myself, "How did I get here?" I decided to take some action to really push myself. In doing so, I needed to change my whole outlook on things and found a few books along the way to help me get into a better framework. Each book offered a diffeent "lesson" that I needed in order to be in the position to move forward in all aspects of my life. Still a work in progress!

1. The Wealth Cure by Hill Harper- I have read and enjoyed  all of his books and this one was no exception. It got me to think on how I spend and save money as well as what meaning and value I put on money and the idea of wealth. This journey that Mr. Harper chronicled was very eye-opening and resonated with me especially at this time of financial unrest that all of us are experiencing.

2.  Get Out of Your Own Way by Tyrese Gibson - This book really showed me a new way of looking at life and decision making and the biggest question, "What is your bottom line?" It was very endearing the way it was written and for Tyrese to share of himself his life stories was really commendable.

3. Transparent by Don Lemon - This book from CNN Anchor Don Lemon about his history and journey to be where he is today is so inspirational! This book truly motivated me to keep on my grind to get to where I want to be.

4.  A Belle in Brooklyn by Demetria Lucas - This book from writer Demetria Lucas brings you on a journey of a writer and her ups and downs while dating in NYC. She is undeniably genuine and relatable in her delivery of stories and messages. She is most certainly a "friend in my head."
