Lately you can’t watch music videos without seeing ones
directed by Little X,
including “HYFR” by Drake and the number Hip-Hop/R&b song in the US, “No
Lie” by 2 Chainz featuring Drake as well. “HYFR” is nominated for the best Hip-Hop Video for the MTV Music
Video Awards along with Justin Beiber’s “Boyfriend”for Best Male & Best Pop video. Coincidentally, X, Drake
and Bieber all have the Canadian connection in common along with taking each of
their respective lanes by storm. X seemed to have taken a break for a bit in
the music video game but seems to be getting back into the groove of
things. He learned
under one of the best video directors, Hype Williams. I had the pleasure of interviewing him back in
2003 right around the time of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre, “ Jay-Z’s “Excuse Me Miss,
“ and Sean Paul’s “Get Busy.” He has a quiet demeanor but yet his videos are
always so vibrant and full of action.
